FC IfeanyiUbah defender Okonkwo was one of the players who was in Nigeria’s U-23 side that won silver in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, a team coached by Siasia.
Okonkwo had always wished to be a key figure in the Super Eagles but has seen successive coaches shun him.
The invitation to the Eagles camp was one that apparently excited the right-back and he hopes to impress in camp.
“The matches against Egypt will be massive,” he said. “I was not so lucky to play previously although injuries a couple of times didn’t help.
“This time, I’ll do my best in camp and hope to be involved. Siasia is a coach that believes in my ability and I want to say a big thank you to him.”
Abia Warriors defender Obaroakpo is also thankful that despite a disappointing showing by the home-based Eagles at the 2016 Africa Nations Championship in Rwanda, a chance to stake his claim in the Eagles backline has presented itself.
“The invitation was indeed good news. I don’t know if I will play or not. Surely it will be hard, but not impossible, to compete with the likes of Godfrey Obobabona and Kenneth Omeruo.
